2015 DC Emmancipation Day

Petersburg, Virginia and Greater Washington, DC Chapter
Buffalo Soldiers participated in the 2015 DC Emancipation Day celebration. Chapter Presidents
Lynn Hill of the DC Chapter and Aubrey Phillips of the Petersburg Chapter were both present and accounted for.

The DC Compensated Emancipation Act of 1862 ended slavery in
Washington, DC, freed 3,100 individuals, reimbursed those who had
legally owned them and offered the newly freed women and men
money to emigrate.
