| | Drew Model Elementary School 3500 South 23rd Street Arlington, Virginia 22206 April 18, 2012 Drew Model Elementary School, Arlington, Virginia. Dr. Alfred O. Taylor, a former Dean of the University of the District of Columbia sat with the 4th and 5th grade classes, over 100 students. Dr. Taylor's Great Grandfather, Alfred Pride, ran away from his Amelia Court House home, Virginia and enlisted at Washington, DC in the 9th Cavalry in 1866. Sergeant Pride retired from the 9th Cavalry in 1891, upon the return of the 9th Cavalry from South Dakota, where the Buffalo Soldiers were assigned because of the events at Wounded Knee in December 1890. Sergeant Pride was assigned to arguably the most decorated Company in any of the four Buffalo Soldier regiments, Troop K, 9th Cavalry. Sergeant Pride retired to Washington, DC, residing at 2600 I Street, NW. He died on August 2, 1910. Sergeant Pride also served with the 10th Cavalry Regiment, B Troop and the 24th Infantry Regiment, F Troop. Sergeant Pride is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
